The portable hot plate (1) has a cylindrical base (4) which supports the heating surface (3) in a recess. The food container (2) is a close fit in the recess and is provided with lugs (6) for lifting. The container may be composed of three equal sectors fitting close together and provided with a common cover (5). The hot plate is heated by candles (7) placed inside the base (4). The candles (7) can be extinguished by means of the disc (8). The heating surface (3) is removable so that the hot plate can be easily cleaned. Any other source of heat such as an electric element may be used.
