The handle (1) is fitted to the suitcase by means of rivets through holes (10) in a base plate (4). Pivots (2, 2a) are provided at each end to allow the handle to be used upright for carrying, or folded down flat on the base plate. It can be locked in this latter position to prevent it being snatched by a thief. The handle has a catch (3) on its side which engages the tongue (6) of the lock protruding into a slot (7). This tongue is spring loaded and the handle can be released by means of a key which is inserted in the lock (5) and turned.
