1277205 Programmed electric control THORN LIGHTING Ltd 28 Aug 1969 [6 Sept 1968] 42639/69 Heading G3N A control system particularly for stage lighting comprises a number of stores selectively connectible to a control store in such a manner that the control store may control any of the number of stores, and in another selection mode of any one of the number of stores may control the control store. The count in the stores is changed by, or may reposition, a mechanical input device. A fader F has a manually operated arm L coupled to a shaft SH1 driving a rotary potential divider which provides a signal to an error detector ED receiving in sequence through continually rotating switches S22, S23 a signal from each of stores OS1-3. A switch S3 through a further rotating switch S23 selects which store will be connected. In position A of a switch S11 the error detector drives a motor M to set the potentiometer so that its output corresponds to that on line 60. In position M the reverse condition applies and the stores OS1-3 are adjusted to correspond with the potentiometer output. A delay may be incorporated to avoid selection of any store until this has been aligned. Switch S11 may be operated by a relay responsive to finger contact on lever L e.g. by means of a conductance or capacity sensitive detector. A circuit may be incorporated to prevent the lever L being driven backwards spuriously. A clutch may be placed in the shaft SH1 to disconnect the motor when the lever L is moved manually, which clutch may be disengaged by the detector circuit. The arrangement is stated to be suitable for use with the systems described in Patent Specifications 1171914/5/6. The signals may be in digital form. In Fig. 7 (not shown) each of 400 signals in a core store (CS) are read in sequence into a buffer store (BS) and written back with a new value if applicable. A digital/analogue converter produces a signal corresponding to the count, at each instant, in the buffer store which is distributed through a scanner (S21) to lamp dimmer control circuits.
