Chess display equip. continuously monitors play configuration - and displays illustrated version on large display board without manual intervention

Each of the sixty-four squares in the chess board (1) on which the game is being played contains one half of a resonant circuit, the other half being mounted inside each chess men. Twelve different resonant frequencies are thus defined, one for each type of man. The entire board is repeatedly scanned, column by column with a transistor switched system so that each resonant circuit is primed in turn. The outputs, of which there are thirteen types are monitored by a filter arrangement (7) which activates a coded set of relay or thyristor contacts so that a suitable picture is projected on to the corresponding square of the display board (3). This is done by a small motor like arrangement corresponding to each display square which takes up one of thirteen positions.
