Alternative drive for rotary and impact drill - includes impact member and ratchet mechanism both with release devices

The impact drill can be arranged for rotary drive only, or alternately with an impact operation using a ratchet mechanism, or in another mode, operates by an impact member. The main spindle (7) has a blind hole (7') at its rear into which locates a rear spindle portion carrying the impact member (8) with a spring (12) behind it. By rotating a block on the housing, a peg pushes this member rearwards against the spring, so that it no longer operates. The ratchet mechanism consists of a front part (16) and a rear part (17) both mounted around the main spindle (7) with a spring (19) inside the rear part (17) pushing against the rear face of the front part (16). These can be engaged or disengaged by adjusting a rotating collar (23) mounted at the front of the housing.
