White noise with a bandwidth B corresponding to that of the multiplex signal is produced. It has an adjustable level and a narrow gap in the noise spectrum. Channel noise in the tested system and alternatively the part of the white noise outside the gap, or with the gap filled with noise, falling in the tested unit selective band b is measured at the unit output; the quotient B:b is a measure for the test load, whose nominal value is an agreed function of the channel number. A "test load" test can be used, in which the receiver sensitivity can be adjusted in steps which take into consideration both the channel number and the ratio B:b the receiver displays for all systems the same value when the load at the tested unit output is just equal to the nominal load.
