The inner pair of rotors are movable relative to the outer pair in a direction opposite to the travel direction of the machine from a first position, in which the upright rotational axes of the rotors lie in a plane at right angles to the travel direction, and a second position, in which imaginary straight lines through the axis of each inner rotor and the immediately adjacent outer rotor subtend an angle which opens in the travel direction and has its apex in a plane of symmetry extending in the travel direction, and in which the rotational axes of the inner rotors are spaced farther apart than in the first position.
