An automatic control device for a pump, is a weight (7) in the lower part of a pipe connector, which acts as a non-return valve and which moves up and down according to flow of water in the connector. A pressure switch senses water pressure in the pipe connector to control operation of the pump. In the pipe connector extending from its lower to its upper end is an inner pipe (8), and outside the pipe connector is a bypass pipe (21) which connects the upper end of the inner pipe to the outlet (1c) of the pipe connector. A second weight (9) also acting as a non-return valve moves up and down according to flow of water in the inner pipe to open or close its connection with the bypass pipe. A sensing switch (10) responds to movement of the second weight to shut off the pump.
