The system, for the continuous casting of steel, includes additional supports with bearings for the ladle supports and which are swivably mounted on the overhang beam of the associated crane. The additional supports are of narrower width than the main ones and the recesses in the overhang beam are enlarged so as to permit the additional supports to be swivelled from a rest position into an operating position and vice-versa. Pref. the additional supports consist of two spaced arms which are swivelled about a vertical axis using an electro-mechanical or electro-hydraulic drive system. The arrangement allows more than one size of ladle to be used.
