Device located between two adjacent zones in which metal sheet or strip is treated with different liquids, hinders the transfer of liq. between the zones. An air box is used contg. two pairs of aligned slot jets, each blowing air towards one of the two zones, the width of the slots matching the width of the sheet or strip which runs through the device without any contact and the air is recirculated. The air box is pref. located in a chamber consisting of two separate sections for confining the spray, each section being connected to one treatment zone and provided with a separate liq. extn. unit for cleaning the air before its reuse. For treatment of metals, e.g. degreasing, phosphating, chromating etc. Prevents the contamination of one treatment zone by the liq. in the other zone in a continuous process and without touching the strip so that no wear occurs.
