Sintered material contains 90-96 wt.% (pref. 94.5 wt.%) of TiO2, 1-5 wt.% (pref. 3.5 wt.%) of Al2O3 and 1-5 wt.% (pref. 2.0 wt.%) of SiO2. The degree of purity is high. The alkali(ne earth) metal oxide content is =0.1 wt.%. The structure is dense; the apparent density is 4.0-4.1 g/cm3 (98-99% theoretical). The grain size is is not 10 mu (pref. max. grain size is 4-7 u). After polishing, the roughness of the surface is is not 0.4 mu (pref. 0.15-0.3 mu). This material has high resistance ot abrasion and corrosion; it has a low coefft. of firction. The material is suitable for bearings, slide packags, gaskets, wire or filament guides, etc. The material has higher abrasion resistance than aluminium oxide and yet superior workability. The smoothness of the filament guides made form this material is of special advantage in the textile industry.
