The suspension hook provides speedy detachment of the chain with no risk of inadvertent disconnection. The hook can be detached, however, even when the chain or cable is under a high tension loading. Two fixed arms (4, 5) project from the base plate (1) of the hook (2). These form a jaw (7) with the hook end. A pivot lever (6) supported at the end of the fixed arms is spring-loaded (8) with a leaf spring. It acts as a closing gate with its face pressing against the hook. The line of force exerted by the chain (3) is virtually through the pivot axis (10) of the gate. The two arms are bowed and separated from one another. An extension to the design is for pulling chains where there is a semi-circular base plate with a hook at both ends.
