A synchronising system for a pair of tape recorders/ reproducers of which the first passes a synchronising signal to a control unit after transport of a specific length of tape to control the transport of a fixed length by the second machine, with a decoder to determine a first tape length which is a measure for the tape length between the head of the first machine and an initial point and feeds it to a comparator which also receives a tape length figure from the second machine. In the absence of equality the comparator opens a gate which allows a pulse signal to be fed to a control input of the second machine.
