TAPE ANALYSIS AND AU AUTHENTICATION THENTICATIONUSING MULTI MULTI-TRACK RECORDERS

Techniques and advantages of multi multi-track (> quarter track) playback heads for forensic analysis of standardmonophonic and stereophonic cassette and micro micro-cassette tape recordings is discussed. The time time-domain waveform forrecorded signat signatures can be analyzed in terms of relative timing offset for determining azimuth of the record head usedures in making a specimen tape. Additionally, excursion of the erase signature into the guard band region is a reliableindicator of an original versus a cop copied erase signature. Comparative advantages over magnetic development techniquesied are discussed.
