An extruder for thermoplastics has planetary rollers with a central screw, outer planetary spindles as screw spindles which mesh in with the central screw, and a first-stage single screw; the planetary rollers portion of the extruder consists of at least two successive units (each with its barrel, planetary spindles and central screw) connected together by their barrels and the central screw. The extruder is suitable for any processing conditions required by the material used.
