The crane or hoist crab travel wheel drive has a motor (6) overhung from the shaft (4) of the wheel (2) and secured solely by its output shaft (7), bearing against a torque reaction stop (8). The motor shaft fits either directly into the wheel shaft or into an intermediate sleeve between them. The motor can have a built-on reduction gear bearing against the stop, and whose output shaft is overhung from the wheel shaft. Alternatively the motor can be accommodated on a fixed mounting, movably coupled to the reduction gear which is overhung from the travel wheel shaft and bears against the stop.
