Pathogenic fungi control using blood or haemoglobin - which are environmentally acceptable, nontoxic and avoid undesirable side effects of synthetic fungicides

A pathogenic fungi are controlled using blood or haemoglobin as the fungicide. Blood esp. animal blood (e.g. ox blood) has fungicidal activity as has the haemoglobin obtd. from it. Both substs. also exhibit bactericidal activity. These natural prods. are environmentally acceptable and non-toxic. They avoid the undesirable side effects of many synthetic fungicides e.g. mutagenicity, tetatogenicity, carcinogenicity. Haemoglobin acts against pathogenic plant fungi e.g. Rizoctonia solani and Pernospora. Ox blood inhibits the growth of moulds on glucose agar as does haemoglobin.
