The profiled sheet metal units (1), esp. of trapezoid cross-section, are used as a self-supporting roof or ceiling structure in hanger-type and other buildings. They may be simple trapeziums in section, or have further smaller profiled areas in their lateral surfaces and/or transverse surface. The units have a number of arches on their length, corresponding to the number of support fields. The size of these depends on the max. loadibility, and the degree of sag (2b) permitted. They are laid on the support structures (3) with the arching upwards, in face of the direction of loading.
