Deep-sea steel-reinforced rubber pipelines - with weighting jacket of rubber contg. lead and litharge powders

Deep-sea pipelines, esp. for carrying crude oil and natural gas, consists of a steel-reinforced rubber pipe with a vulcanised weighting jacket of a rubber compsn. contg. A high proportion of lead and litharge powder. The pipelines have adequate flexibility and compressibility, with sufficient, weight to counteract buoyancy. Toxic effect on the environment is slight, since most of the Pb and PbO is not on the surface but is inaccessible inside the rubber.
