New solvent- and surfactant-based cold cleansing compsns. contain (a) an esp. predominantly paraffinic or naphthenic mineral oil fraction, (b) dodecyl-benzene sulphonic acid, (c) a 10-16C alkylamine and (d) a water-soluble alkanolamine. Component (b) quantity is 0.5-10 wt.%, w.r.t. total compsn. Components (c) and (d) together are present in stoichiometric quantities, w.r.t. dodecylbenzen sulphonic acid. Compsns. are used for removing oily and fatty dirt from solid surfaces, e.g. metals, cement, ceramic, glass and plastics. Uses include cleaning machinery, vehicles engines, transport containers and oily floors at room or slightly higher temps. Compsns. have good cleansing power and can be rinsed off completely and quickly from the surfaces to be cleaned. Water-solvent dirt emulsion is quickly separated with formation of a clear aq. phase. For safety purposes, mineral oil fractions advantageously have flash points 55 degrees C. Amines (c) may be used as mixtures. Suitable alkanolamines (d) are mono-, di-, triethanolamine and mono-, di- and triisopropanolamine. In an example, a cleansing compsn. was prepd. by dissolving 2% 12-14C fatty amine, 1% triethanolamine and 3.5% dodecylbenzene sulphonic acid in a paraffinic and naphthenic mineral oil fraction, b.pt. 182-212 degrees C.
