The sealing for expansion joint gaps in a floor incorporates two side rails, each anchored to the building body on one side of a gap, set on end parallel to the gap edges and covering its sidewalls in the area of the joint opening. These have support rails fixed to them, at a right angle to the centre plane of the joint gap, and sliding to overlap in the middle. A permanently elastic covering, bonded to the floor, is held by these rails. The side rail fixed to it, and these combine with the top support rail to form an enclosure, open in the direction of the joint, centre plane, for sliding accommodation of the other support rail underneath. The sealing can be prefabricated and subsequently installed, and can be used in wide gaps and support heavy loading.
