A device operated by twin support cables for excavation of earth, in partic. for manufacture of pile bores, shafts etc. has a housing fitted to one of the drop cables. Twin spade grip jaws are mounted below the housing and operated by the second drop cable. A linkage system is used to transmit force to the digging jaws from the operation of the cables. Rods are used to link the lowest rod of the linkage system to the digging jaws to reinforce the transmission and promote digging efficiency.
