The liquid coolant system has a pump for the circulation of the coolant through a heat exchanger, which has a thermostatically controlled bypass. A first three way valve at the point where the coolant flow leaves the engine is controlled by the temp. of the coolant entering the engine. One outlet of the valve leads to the heat exchanger, another outlet to a line which bypasses the engine. A second three way valve is also controlled by the coolant temp. entering the engine. The outlets of this valve are connected with the outlets of the first valve. The outlet of the heat exchanger of the charge air cooler or the oil cooler is connected to the inlet of the second three way valve.
