Heating system comprises a heat pump which takes heat energy from the atmosphere, using solar energy and heat losses due to ventilation. The evaporator of the heat pump does not admit the air from the atmosphere until it has been treated and has passed through the rooms to be heated. Two separate air inlet pipes may be provided, one passing over a solar cell and the other passing through the soil. They are connected in series to an air circulating pipe. The atmospheric air may be heated by an accumulator which is acted upon by the heat pump and which may include auxiliary heating means. Room air may be controlled by two valve chambers: the first controlling air from the solar cell; the second, air from the first valve chamber and air which has passed through the soil.
