A fault location system is for transmission systems having repeater amplifiers across the positive and negative parallel lines fed with a power supply through matching units. The centre points of each amplifier per repeater stage are connected by a quadrature resistor of high ohmic value. In the event of a transmission line break the position can be located by a reading on an indicating instrument which shows the sum of the current through each quadrature resistor still connected. It follows that all the resistors have to be identical. They represent only a small drain on the supply system and, by elimination of the hitherto connected series diode, allow much simpler and quicker fault location.
