A coin operated football or hockey game for two players reduces liability to damage caused by rough handling. The holding chamber for the balls, normally at one side of the machine is in placed in the interior with access only through a narrow slot. This avoids damage to the container which is often caused by players hitting it to cause improper release of the balls. Each side guide wall (3a, 3b) has a mounting slot (10) receiving a bearing (11) for a shaft (12). This shaft is coupled to the release bar of the coin-operated mechanism. A pivotable flap (14) is fitted to the shaft.
