Uronic acids as cortisone substitutes - in medicaments and cosmetics

Products contg uronic acid can be used for treating skin disorders (esp. eczema and psoriasis) bronchial asthma, insect bites and various minor infections, and for improving skin tone. Uronic acids are free of the side effects associated with cortisone, e.g. the Cushing syndrome, susceptibility to infection and peptic ulcers. The uronic acid is pref. D-glucuronic acid or its gamma-lactone. The medicaments are pref. administration topically or orally in the form of aq. solns. In the case of skin disorders. they can be applied both orally as aq. solns and topically as ointments.
