Lip seal for rotating shaft - has rubbing ring supported by rubber moulding which retains lip moulding

A lip seal (1) is a rubber moulding (4) with a metal internal reinforcing ring (2). The lip (6) is pressed against a rubbing ring (8) by a garter spring (7). The rubbing ring (8) has an end flange (10) and is encased in a rubber moulding which forms a seal with the shaft and in addition has a radial extension (14) which retains the inwardly turned flange (13) of the lip seal moulding (4). This construction of a lip seal keeps the two elements (1) and (8) together during storage and transport. The lip seal (1) can be easily assembled by axial pressure which forces the bevelled edge (15) over the flange (14). This form of construction eliminates the need for machined parts with fine tolerances.
