The assembly that forms the seal between the shaft (1) and the supple lip (4) of a peripheral joint (2) surrounding the shaft consists of a rubber static sealing zone (11) moulded onto a primary structure made from formed sheet metal (9) that is wedged onto the shaft (1). This structure (9) has on its outer surface a low friction smooth rubbing surface (5) for the lip (4) of the joint. Or alternatively this surface can be provided on a second structure (14) in the form of a sleeve made from a special low friction material which is wedged onto the primary structure (9). Use/Advantage - A rubbing assembly for a lip seal which is fitted onto the rotating shaft made from a low friction material which is easily fitted and replaced when worn without any wear being experienced by the rotating shaft.
