Prodn. of hydrothermally hardened calcium silicate-base lightweight building plates or blocks having a raw density of 0.35 g/cm3 and a compressive strength exceeding 10 kg/cm2, from an intensively stirred mixt. of quick lime, a silica-contg. component, water and opt. inorganic and/or organic fibres subjected to a hydrothermal hardening under compressed saturated water vapour (10-20 atm. gauge; 175-210 degrees C) is improved by using a highly reactive quick lime and heating the mixt., before the hydrothermal hardening, to a temp. exceeding 70 degrees C. Large structural elements free of voids can be produced due to the combined use of highly reaction quick lime and the preheating of the mixt.
