Process for hydrothermally hardening calcium silicate hydrate bound building materials comprises using an autoclave process with start up, holding and shut down phases. The holding phase is regulated by temperature whilst the core temperature of the cake is measured and used for regulating the process. Energy is introduced or removed so that the cake temperature remains constant or follows a predetermined temperature progression. Preferred Features: A steel-encased PT100-resistance thermometer with a reinforced tip and corresponding length is placed in the cake. The temperature is measured at a depth of 2-7, especially 3-5 cm.
