In analytical determn. of nitrogen by use of a resonance lamp the discharge lamp contains air at low pressure, 1-5 mbar, and is sealed. By avoiding the need to use a continuous flow of air through the discharge lamp the equipment is simplified and cheapened and its safety is increased. The gas mixt. to be analysed is irradiated by a nitrogen radiation produced in a cavity resonating discharge lamp, and the amount of radiation absorbed is assessed by means of a suitable detector; it is a measure of the nitrogen concentration in the gas mixt. The discharge lamp contains air at low pressure, 1 to 5 m illibar, and is sealed to be vacuum-tight.
