Eddy-current brake for static and dynamic torque measurement - has rotating shaft with dual brake discs and strain-gauge

The eddy-current braking system for the measurement of static and dynamic torque consists of a central shaft supported by bearings in a housing. The central part of the shaft is enclosed in a tube itself supported by bearings. The outer end of the shaft is connected to the machinery under test. The rear end of the shaft carries a brake disc running between the poles of an electro-magnet. The tube enclosing the central part of the shaft has a similar brake disc. The narrow, force-measuring part of the shaft is fitted with a strain gauge element. The output signal is transmitted via pick-up coils around the tube to the connecting terminals mounted on the outer casing.
