2-Benzopyranone derivs of formula (I) and their salts with physiologically acceptable acids are new: (where X is 3,4,5-trimethyoxybenzoyl or 3,4,5-trimethyoxycinnamoyl, each R is amino (opr. substd. by (a) 1 or 2 1-6C alkyl gps. in which a C atom may be replaced by O and an H atom may be replaced by OH opt. esterified by X, (b) 1 or 2 2-4C alkanoyl gps., (c) one =10C aralkyl gp., or (d) 4-7C cycloalkyl) or an N atom which is part of a 4-7 membered heterocycle with up to 3 heteroatoms and opt. substd. by Ph, 1-3C alkyl, or 1-3C hydroxyalkyl opt. esterified by X). (I) are coronary dilators, partic. effective on myocardial blood flow; they are active by enteral admin., unlike prior 2-benzopyranones such as carbocromene. (I) are useful for treating cardiovascular ailments such as coronary insufficiency, angina pectoris etc.
