Compact handbrake lever on transmission tunnel - with handgrip across tunnel and pivotted levers straddling tunnel

The handbrake lever has a horizontal grip bar (1) joining two levers (2) pivoted on the sides of the transmission tunnel. A release button (3) on one side of the grip bar is operated by the thumb to release the brake. In the released position the grip bar lies flush with the top of the tunnel, or in a transverse groove over the tunnel. The lever provides a compact handbrake mounting, with no extra space required between the front seats and the transmission. It can be fitted to any vehicle, and allows good leverage to be applied to the brake. In the released position it presents a flush mounting with reduced injury risk. Control switches (4) on the console are not masked by the lever in the off position.
