Heat exchanger with U:tube cluster - has split stabilising plate slotted to prevent tube distortion damage

Heat exchanger with tube cluster used in motor vehicles is for gases and has several parallel U shaped tubes. Free ends of tubes are connected to a manifold with inlet and outlet chambers. The tube cluster is supported by a perforated plate near the curve region of the tubes. This perforated plate does not cause damage to tubes on thermal distortion. The perforated plate is split along the tube cluster mid plane into two perforated plates (15a, 15b). One plate supports tube arms on the inlet side and the other plate supports the pipes on the outlet side. A perforated plate has also transverse slots connecting pipe penetrations. These slots are arranged in the direction of the second gas flow stream.
