The rail-monitored travelling track-measuring vehicle is used in the continuous measurement of railway track distortions. As the vehicle moves, change in the function of the height of the two rail top edges is continuously computed, with the aid of a calculator, with storage devices. This is programmed so as to store a metered reading and the time of reading, in the event of agreement of this reading with one of the input limit readings. Similarly, the next agreeing reading, and its time, are stored, and the quotient of the differential is resolved, this programmed process being continuously repeated. The system is not dependent on the base length.
