Steriliser partic. for surgical instruments, has an outlet (13) connected to the steam pressure chamber (10) through a valve (14). The valve (14) is mounted at the base and lowest point of the chamber (10) and is controlled by a timper system, which allows the valve (14) to open when a predetermined sterilisation period has elapsed. When the valve (14) is opened, any water remaining in the boiler chamber underneath the sterilising chamber (10) is forced out by the action of steam pressure which has built up within the steriliser chamber (10).
