Coke oven quenching system - with gas collector hood structure on rails, has separate rail track for coke quenching car

An emmission collector hood structure with twice the length of a coke quenching car (I) runs on rails along a coke oven battery up to the quenching tower. (I) can be moved inside the collector hood structure on a short built-in rail track by a rack-and-pinion drive as in the parent patent. A separate rail track is laid the full length of the coke oven battery. The bottom of the collector hood structure is extended inwards to form a seal with (I). No space collector hood structure need be bought to act as a standby in case the first is out of action for repairs. A conventional (I) can now run on the extra rail track instead.
