Modified moisture-crosslinked thermoplastic rubbers - contain graftable cpds. e.g. silanes and/or are adducts formed with cpds. contg. e.g. silicon hydride gps.
Moisture-crosslinked thermoplastic rubber, esp. of block copolymer type, contains cpds. (I) grafted onto rubber molecule and/or added to its double bounds, to form an adduct. Under effect of moisture, (I) cause crosslinking of the rubber. Pref. cpds. (I) grafted on are silanes or silane mixts., e.g. silane-peroxide mixts. Adduct-forming (I) pref. contain =1 -Si-H gp. in molecule. Prods. are used for sheathing elongated articles, e.g. electric cables, conduits or pipes and partic, for electrical insulation of high-voltage cables. Improved dimensional stability on heating is achieved without vulcanisation. In example, 100 pts. wt. thermoplastic rubber are modified with 1-3 pts. wt. vinyl trimethoxysilane.
