Work roll changing in rolling mill for thick plate - where work rolls and lower backup roll are mounted on movable trolley

The lower back-up roll and its chocks rest on a wheeled trolley moved by a motor-driven carriage. The trolley is lifted from its position of rest via work cylinders which raise sections of the rails along which the trolley runs. Below the chocks for the lower back-up roll in the trolley are plungers which light push rods passing through vertical holes in the chocks and entering recesses in the chocks for the lower work roll. The carriage is fitted with pusher- and cover-plates, and a set of guides is located at 90 degrees to the trolley rails and employed to move one set of work rolls off the lower back-up roll and supply a new set of work rolls. Reduces the time required to change the work rolls, and does not require the use of an overhead crane.
