The single honing stone (14) is mounted in a tubular holder (11) by means of a wedge (16) in such a way that it is radially adjustable. The outside diameter of the tubular holder is 0.01 mm (at the most 0.04 mm) smaller than the diameter of the bore of the hole. The honing tool (1) is mounted as a unit at one end in a clamping chuck (10) while it is supported at the other end in a bearing (12). The workpiece (5) is supported in a universal mounting, which allows it to align with the honing tool. The tubular holder has a thick wall and is provided with two flats which make a space through which the coolant can be forced under high pressure.
