The machine tool has a lower tool against which an upper tool is movable, the upper tool being driven from a main drive shaft via an eccentric. Engaged around the upper tool is a finger protection device in the form of a pincers type workpiece lower holder. An electrical motor drives the main drive shaft and has a control for a brake. For operation of the finger protection device, an articulated lever (5,6) is swivelably located on the machine housing and is connected to the control cam (2) of the main drive shaft (1). On the two parts (5,6) of the articulated lever a switch control (9,10) for the electric motor stop brake is fitted.
