Meter tariff alterations during operation - using power line signalling to change setting depending on system demand

The watt-hour meter has a receiver and associated control mechanism for changing the tariff rate in response to a signal sent out along the supply lines by the power authority from a central control. The rate can thus be altered at any time when there is a load trough. Where items of equipment are also controlled by a remote signalling system, a unique channel is provided for the watt-hour meter. The equipment can then also be switched in economic blocks independently of the tariff. The system may be extended to indicate the tariff in operation and also the next anticipated alteration depending on the expected power system load contour.
