1491579 Preparation of α,#-unsaturated alcohols by reduction of aldehydes TEIJIN Ltd 22 Dec 1975 [26 Dec 1974 (2)] 52335/75 Heading C2C [Also in Division B1] Unsaturated alcohols are prepared by catalytic hydrogenation of unsaturated alcohols in the presence of a solid catalyst comprising platinum oxide and an iron compound and a zinc compound deposited on its surface in an atmosphere of hydrogen (see Division B1). The unsaturated aldehydes may be α,#-unsaturated aldehydes of the general formula where R 1 is a saturated or unsaturated hydrocarbon group, and R 2 and R 3 are different or identical and represent a hydrogen atom, a saturated or unsaturated hydrocarbon group or a heterocyclic group. The hydrogenation of #-methyl-crotonaldehyde, citral, cimanyl aldehyde and trans - 2 - hexenyl aldehyde is exemplified.
