Conveyor-mounted coal shearer haulage chain guard consists of spaced positive guides connected on the face side to the spillage plates close to the machine end sprockets. Bolts are fitted to allow the guides to swivel on the face side parallel to the plates. Stops fitted to the guides are opened and closed by housings enclosing these sprockets at the machine ends so as to free the chain from the guide to a low the machine through, and then return it into the guide. The guide level with the chain it controls can comprise a plate joined to the spillage plate with slide strips welded to it top and bottom, and the bolts in bearing above the top strip to actuate the open and closing stop for chain release and recapture.
