Increasing availability of phosphate fertiliser to plants - by mixing phosphatic fertiliser with lignite

In a new process for the prodn. of a phosphatic fertiliser, lignite is admixed with the phosphate to give better utilisation thereof. This is attributed to chelating agents in the lignite, which form complexes with Fe, Al, Ca etc. in the soil and permit the phosphate ions to go into or remain insolution. The lignite is pref. used in an amt. 70-98%. The fertiliser advantageously also contains small amts. of bacterially degradable substances, e.g. clarification sludge. Other additives (e.g. fly ash, loess or loess marl) may also be present.
