Use of (2)-naphthylamines as coupling components - in tests for participants in diazo reactions, esp. nitrite

2-Naphthylamines of formula (I) are used as coupling components in reagents for detecting substances taking part in diazo reactions. (where R11 and R12 are H, lower alkyl or aryl; R3-R7 are H, lower alkyl, aryl, OH, NH2, mono- or dialkylamino, alkoxy, esterified OH, COOH, esterified COOH, CONH2, halogen or NO2; R1 and R8 are H). (I) are esp. suitable for use in tests for nitrite or nitrite-forming bacteria in body fluids, foodstuffs, drinking water and waste waters and for HNO2 in the air. (I) have greater oxidative stability than the normally used 1-naphthylamines.
