Appts. for holding parts of body during x-ray examination comprises a housing (12) of which at least some parts are permeable to x-rays and which is fitted over the part of the body to be examined. Connected to the housing is a fluid source from which the housing can be filled with liquid and/or gaseous fluid (16) which applies uniform pressure to the bodily part to be examined. The housing may be closed by an elastically deformable membrane-like partition (14) on the side which is applied to the body, with the partition attached releasably to the housing, or the housing may be open on that side and provided along the edges with peripheral elastic sealing elements to prevent escape of fluid. The appts. prevents the occurrence of any areas of greater pressure deformation which could cause pain to the patient.
