The arrangement esp. used for diesels, consists of a cooling water pump, a re-cooler (3) for the cooling water, re-cooler bypass line and an engine cooling water control valve. This valve divides the flow, leaving the engine between the re-cooler and the bypass in a ratio depending on the coolant temp. The coolant fed to the engine comes either from the re-cooler or is a mixture from the bypass and the cooler. The arrangement further consists of a cooler (6) for the supercharged air and a coolant valve (7) for the water flowing through the supercharged air cooler. Depending on the temp. of the supercharged air, water is fed to the air cooler which is part of the flow from the re-cooler, or part of the coolant flow from the engine or a mixture of these two flows. A charged air cooler bypass line (12) is provided which feeds water from the re-cooler straight to the cooling water inlet of the engine.
